Resource Description

School readiness is a systematic process that goes hand in hand with childhood development. Once children are ready for school, they should be able to cope with formal education requirements.

On entering Grade One, children are expected to have reached certain developmental milestones and have the basic skills necessary for formal education. All children go through these developmental milestones at different stages, and some may need extra help mastering specific skills. For example, a child who stills battles with correct pencil grip may find the initial writing tasks more challenging than those who have mastered this skill.

The school readiness activity programme consists of a variety of worksheets, activities, exercises, and videos and focuses on the following areas of development:

 Body perception

 Form perception

 Numeracy (play dough mats and worksheets)

 Letter formation (activities, worksheets and animated video)

 Emerging writing patterns and activities.

 Visual perception (activities and worksheets)

 Auditory perception (activities and worksheets)

 Fine motor development and cutting skills (activities and videos)

 General guidelines for stimulation.

This resource is suitable for Grade R learners. It can be utilised at home for consolidating and developing the developmental skills necessary for academic progress in grade 1. This resource consist of 105 pages and 5 videos.
