What is matter? The dictionary says it is “that which has mass and occupies space;
an atom is the smallest indivisible unit of matter.” If that is the case, then matter matters!
Matter is everywhere, except in a vacuum. Matter is everything. Chemistry is the study of
matter and how it changes and interacts with other matter. It has four states—which you
